My sister came to stay for a few days last week - she too has the crafty bug! Mainly channelling hers into the art of upholstery, recovering old bits of furniture she's picked up from charity shops or flea markets. She's also a whizz on the sewing machine, making anything from quilts to bow ties, not to mention a keen knitter and crocheter...

Anyway... I decided to put her to work straight away!

I had picked up this abandoned chair from down the road, which was still in perfectly good nic, just needing a bit of tlc. So I sanded down the heavily polished wood and Rachel stripped the base of the seat ready for recovering.
I photographed the process and result...
Before:

Once the top fabric was in place she covered the bottom with a simple cream fabric and sewed it in with an upholstery needle (not pictured). Then all that was left to do was pop it back into the frame of the chair.

VoilĂ !

I'm so pleased with how it turned out... I'm keeping my eyes peeled for another chair like it and maybe have a go myself.

this and that...

Hello! Do you like my new logo? I've been wanting to update it for a while and will probably continue to fiddle & play around - but I am happy with the new look. Trying to think of how to incorporate a 'dove' - but it turns out I'm a bit crap at drawing birds, so will have to practice a little more first. :)

Just a few pictures to share from this week, it has been half term for us so we've ventured out and tried to do a few little creative projects at home. It's been nice to have some time off with the girls just pottering and letting them play... with a few treats along the way!

(A new cowl for a friend... i can custom make in case you're interested?)

(oh my, would you look at that cheeky face!)

(How cute is Jemimah taking a pictures of her homemade cookies?) :)

We've got some sunshine today - hooray! and awaiting the arrival of one of my sisters and her family. It's gonna be a fun few days... x

Currently making...

So I've been running a crochet workshop from my home every friday morning and this is what it looks like.
While I serve up the coffee, the ladies (so far no men...) pile in with their little ones and find a seat. After a bit of a chat and quick catch up, we get started with our various projects. I'll work my way round the table teaching or helping out where I can. Most of them have never crocheted before but after just a couple of sessions here they seem to have got the hang of it - with some great results (headbands, scarfs, hats, cushions, blankets etc).

It's just £5 for the morning (those with little ones there's plenty of toys, biscuits & playmates to keep them occupied & happy)... so if you're in the area, get in touch and you'd be more than welcome to come along.

As usual I have a number of projects on the go myself... here they are in various unfinished states.

Pompom garland.

Scarf no.1

Scarf no.2

Blanket. (For sale)

Left over wool scarf! :)

More wristwarmers ...

...love them

Love mine.

And here's another happy customer... :)

That was January...

First month of the year gone... !
I did my best to capture life on a daily basis like I said i would... missed a few days, but here are the ones I did manage to snap. As usual January delivered its highs and lows ...my birthday being a high, but then the usual blues that set in after the Christmas festivities.

(31/01/2014)

And then the last day of the month brought with it an exciting new project idea that my friend and I dreamed up whilst sitting drinking coffee and musing about our love of making and general craftiness. :) I'm excited for something new. And if I'm honest, 2014 may be the last year of the calendar.... for the time being anyway, we'll see. It's a lot of work to put together, get printed and then sell by yourself. And when you're the only salesman - that's a whole lot of 'self-plugging' & craft fairs!

So anyway... that was January 2014.

Oh February, please be good to us.
